Abstract

Digital business models are reshaping businesses and the whole industries nowadays. In line with such developments, there is a growing body of scholarly literature studying various aspects of digital business models. Yet, papers dealing with digital business models maturity and ways to effectively measure it are still scarce. The aim of this study is to fill the identified research gap and provide a thorough overview and an empirically tested framework for measuring digital business models maturity, particularly for SMEs. Methods used include an extensive research constructed upon valid framework and conducted internationally through a structured online questionnaire. Framework for maturity measurement is based on three core components of digital business models – content, experience and platform. Paper provides a tested set of questions for measuring digital maturity of each component, as well as relevant statistical and contextual analysis of results obtained. Furthermore, the presented framework could be used in practice by interested companies, aiming to measure and benchmark their own digital business model maturity.
