Abstract

The concept of scalar measures of the degree of internal connectedness in input – output models is considered. These measures are believed to be important structural indicators, helpful in model estimation. They allow for a summary description and comparative analysis of various linear flow systems. Several measures drawn from the economic and ecological input – output literatures are examined. It is shown that none of the measures represent connectedness adequately.
