Abstract

Performance contracting is all rage for facility managers today. Where the rubber meets road in performance contracting is counting beans after work is done-otherwise known as measurement & verification (M&V). This article provides a down-to-earth explanation of measurement & verification options for performance contracts as identified in Department of Energy's International Performance Measurement and Verification Protocol (IPMVP)-formerly known as North American Energy Measurement and Verification Protocol (NEMVP). The article also provides recommendations for choice of M&V methods.
