Abstract

The extension of techniques introduced in probability kinematics for belief updating is suggested in the framework of Shafer's evidence and Zadeh's possibility theories. This has been made possible due to the recent emergence of new kinds of information measures in this setting that are briefly reviewed in the paper, including analogs of the cross-entropy measure. An example of updating rule which illustrates the approach for possibility measures is provided, and contrasted with other rules deriving from a generalization of conditioning to uncertain observations.
