Abstract

Data distribution helps in achieving higher availability, reliability and increased performance of an enterprise application that is geographically dispersed. There are various data distribution strategies available and selection of a most suitable strategy for an enterprise is a multi-criteria decision-making problem. The selection problem of data distribution strategy is very complex because it depends on multiple conflicting criteria. It is essential to strike a right balance between conflicting criteria and select the most suitable data distribution strategy. This research paper presents a framework for measuring and selecting most suitable data distribution strategy using an integrated approach of fuzzy based multi-objective optimization on the basis of ratio analysis and analytic hierarchy process. A real world problem from an enterprise was undertaken to illustrate the results of the proposed methodology. In this paper, five data distribution strategies and six criteria were considered. The methodology used in this paper acts as an important tool for the practitioners to measure and evaluate the most suitable data distribution strategy in an enterprise and improve the overall quality.
