Abstract
Planetary Science In 2010, the Hayabusa mission returned regolith samples from the S-type asteroid Itokawa. Jin and Bose performed measurements of the hydrogen isotopic composition and water content and explored possible alternative origins of the water in these samples. The nominally anhydrous minerals are indeed water-rich. The authors propose that up to half of the water volume of Earth's oceans could have derived from water from small asteroids like Itokawa. Sci.
