Abstract

The momentum spectra of muons arriving at zenith angles of 30°, 45° and 60° in the East-West azimuth have been determined at Nottingham (latitude 53° N) using a Conversi tube spectrograph of MDM 28 GeV/c. It is shown that a pion production spectrum of the form\(N{\mathbf{ }}\left( {p_\pi } \right){\mathbf{ }}dp_\pi {\mathbf{ }} = {\mathbf{ }}0.373p_\pi ^{ - 2.97} {\mathbf{ }}dp_\pi \) generates the spectra. The variations of the sea-level muon charge ratio at the angles considered, and of the exponentn in the expressionIθ =Iθ cosn θ with momentum have also been determined.
