Abstract

This paper introduces a heat flux meter (HFM) designed for the measurement of radiation heat flux in a coal-fired boiler. A one-dimensional heat transfer model was established to calculate the sensitivity and response time of the HFM. This kind of HFM was used to measure the heat flux distribution on the fireside water wall in the furnace of a 600 MW supercritical arch-fired boiler (SC-AFB). The measured results indicated that the average heat flux values decreased as the furnace height increased, especially near the platen super-heater zone of the upper furnace. Based on the measured data, the maximum heat flux on the front wall appeared at about 1/6 of the total width from the side, instead of the central of the furnace.
