Abstract

The strategy of measurements with a pulsed coherent Doppler lidar (PCDL) and the method of raw data processing to estimate the parameters of the wake formed behind a wind turbine downwind are suggested. Measurements with a 2-μm PCDL demonstrate that depending on the atmospheric conditions, the operating wind turbine generates a wake with maximum deficit of the wind velocity from 27 to 75% and longitudinal wake sizes varying from 120 to 1180 m. It is demonstrated that doubling of the turbulent energy dissipation rate causes the longitudinal size of the wake generated by the wind turbine to halve.
