Abstract

Using a variation of a standard attenuation technique, total proton reaction cross sections (σR) have been measured for Ti and B at eight incident proton energies between 20 and 50 MeV at the University of Manitoba Cyclotron Laboratory. The Ti cross sections are presented along with existing reaction cross section data and are compared with optical model predictions for σR. The B cross sections are compared with σR for the nearby elements Be and C. The B and Ti results are also compared to predictions of the opaque-nucleus model.
