Abstract

MEASUREMENTS of the sun's general magnetic field have been made at ± 45° heliographic latitude. The pole field-strength Hp, given in the accompanying graph, has been calculated from the observations on the assumption that the sun has a dipole field, its axis being parallel to the axis of rotation. A negative sign means that the direction of this field relative to the rotation is opposite to that for the earth.
