Abstract

A multi-wavelength radar backscatter study of the echo characteristics of radio-meteors has yielded measurements of the height dependence of the radii, r i , of overdense plasma meteor columns. For electron line densities α ∼ 10 15 m −1 it is found that r i ∝ ϱ −0.63 (ϱ atmospheric density) with r i = 5 m at a height of 100 km.
