Abstract

Investigations of the influence of the most critical parameter, the probe size, on collected particle fluxes are presented. Plasma ion fluxes in both toroidal directions were monitored in the scrape-off layer of the MT-1 tokamak using single Langmuir probes and Mach number probes with different size of the separation sheet. The sheet sizes were between 3 × 3 mm 2 and 15 × 15 mm 2 and should disturb the local plasma at the sheet location in a quite different extent. The measurements show that the influence of the probe size on collected particle fluxes is much lower than expected from simple diffusion models.
