Abstract

Self-diffusion coefficients of ammonium ion in aqueous ammonium chloride and ammonium sulphate solutions have been determined by a cell with a very thin diaphragm and by using 15NH+4 as a tracer. The experimental data at low concentrations satisfied the theoretical equation of Onsager-Gosting-Harned. The activation energies of the self-diffusion of ammonium ion in 0.01 M solutions of ammonium chloride and ammonium sulphate were determined to be 16 kJ mol–1 in the temperature range of 5–35°C.
