Abstract

It has been suggested that 50 Hz electric fields from mains power supplies could significantly increase doses from radon decay products. To investigate this, simultaneous measurements have been made of radon decay products in air in a high electric field under a high voltage power line and at a nearby location where the electric field was nearly 100 times lower. The concentrations were found to be very variable with time, but show no significant difference in outdoor radon decay product concentrations between locations with high and low electric fields when the measurements are carried out simultaneously.
