Abstract

Measurements of T ★ 2 for monochloroacetic acid in the α,β and γ phases were made. Major variations in T ★ 2 values following the γ→β and β→α transitions were observed, leading the authors to conclude that these transitions were a source of defects and crystal strains. The results further emphasized the need for describing the history of samples when quoting T ★ 2 measurements. The observation of T ★ 2 variations in all three phases highlights the sensitivity of T ★ 2 measurements to changes in these defects and strains.
