Abstract

A personal dosimetry system is required to measure the personal dose equivalent in a wide range of radiation fields as accurately as possible. For the construction of complete response functions of a dosemeter, varieties of monochromatic photon field covering energy ranges encountered in radiation protection practices are needed. So, 8 different qualities of monochromatic fluorescence X-rays whose energy, ranging from 8.6 keV to 75 keV are produced using the combination of an X-ray generator and a series of radiators emitting monochromatic K-X-rays. The Kβ lines are discriminated by appropriate filter to make the Kα X-rays dominate the spectra. The resulting spectra are verified by spectrometry with a HPGe planar detector and an MCA. The measured spectra show nearly monoenergy peaks and the beam purities are from 89.7 to 97.5 % for all the energy qualities. The effects of tube currents on spectral purity at the determined X-ray tube potential are not observed up to 15 mA.
