Abstract

Abstract An experimental investigation has been made of the instrumental time delays and resolution of a fast coincidence system as a function of the energy liberated in the scintillators. This has been done for NaI(Tl), anthracene, plastic and liquid scintillators whose decay times, relative efficiencies and photo electron yields have also been investigated. The results serve to assess some of the errors and limitations inherent in the measurement of very short times, and give some indication of their causes
