Abstract

Electric dipole moments of the A 2B2 and X 2A1 states of NO2 were measured by high resolution laser spectroscopy in a supersonic molecular beam under a static electric field ranging up to 300 kV/cm. The measurements were performed on the qR(0)00 transition of band 99 at 593 nm. The results for the excited states (101) are μb(J′ = 1/2)=0.278(6)D, μb(J′ = 3/2)=0.254(6)D and for the ground state (000) is μb=0.289(6)D. A perturbation of the Stark pattern by an unknown background state could be localized at field strengths around 210 kV/cm.
