Abstract
The diffusion coefficients ( D ) of Au in binary metal-metalloid (Fe 80 B 20 and Fe 82 B 18 ) and metal-metal (Zr 61 Ni 39 ) glasses were measured in the temperature range 546–645 K by using the Auger depth profiling technique. The D values varied in the range 7.0 × 10 2 -2.0× 10 −19 m 2 s −1 and were maximum in Zr 61 Ni 39 followed by those in Fe 80 B 20 and Fe 82 B 18 . The faster diffusion in Fe 80 B 20 as compared to that in Fe 82 B 18 was attributed to its lower density or metal packing fraction value. The temperature dependence of D was Arrhenius in nature in all three cases.
