Abstract
Abstract The X-ray elastic constant of zirconia (ZrO2 phase in alumina-zirconia (Al203-Zr02) composite material was first determined for the diffraction line of Zr02 (133) plane by using Cr-Ka radiation, and then the X-ray Young's modulus, E-X-ray. and Poisson's ratio,.νX-rays, of Zr02 phase in Al203-Zr02 composite ceramics were also measured. The dependence of alumina (A1203) volume-fraction on the X-ray Young's modulus and Poisson's ratio of Zr02 phase in Al203-Zr02 ceramics were investigated. The main results are summarized as follows: 1 The X-ray Young's modulus of Zr02 phase in Al203-Zr02 ceramics increase as the Al203 volume-fraction became larger. On the other hand, X-ray Poisson's ratio of Zr02 phase in them are almost constant independently of A1203 volume-fraction 2 The phase stress of Zr02 phase in Al202-Zr02 ceramics were measured. The residual phase stress of Zr02 phase were tensile in all materials. And the ratio of phase stress to applied stress became larger as A1202 volume-fraction decrease.
