Abstract

Total cross sections of ${K}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ mesons in hydrogen and deuterium were measured over the momentum range 630 to 1100 Mev/c. The ${K}^{\ensuremath{-}}\ensuremath{-}n$ total cross sections were obtained from deuterium and hydrogen data. A well-defined resonance appeared in the ${K}^{\ensuremath{-}}\ensuremath{-}p$ total cross section at about 1000 Mev/c. Two high-resolution velocity-selecting \ifmmode \check{C}\else \v{C}\fi{}erenkov counters were used to select ${K}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ mesons. The momentum resolution was within 1% to 2%, and the momentum intervals chosen were very closely spaced.
