Abstract

The vapor pressures of 2,4,6-trinitrotoluene ( tnt), 2,4-dinitrotoluene (2,4- dnt), 2,6-dinitrotoluene (2,6- dnt), and ethylene glycol dinitrate ( egdn) have been measured by an electron-capture gas-chromatographic method in the temperature range from 287.15 to 329.65 K for tnt, 277.15 to 344.15 K for 2,4- dnt, 277.15 to 323.15 K for 2,6- dnt, and 240.15 to 298.15 K for egdn. The temperature dependence of the vapor pressure is given by the equations: TNT: log 10(p/Torr)=(12.31±0.34)−(5175±105)K/t2,4−DNT: log 10(p/Torr)=(13.08±0.19)−(4992±59)K/t2,6−DNT: log 10(p/Torr)=(13.99±0.18)−(5139±52)K/tEGDN: log 10(p/Torr)=(10.55±0.08)−(3476±22)K/t The values for the enthalpy of sublimation are ΔH sub(tnt) = (23.7 ± 0.5) kcal th mol −1, ΔH sub(2,4-dnt) = (22.9 ± 0.3) kcal th mol −1, and ΔH sub(2,6-dnt) = (23.5 ± 0.2) kcal th mol −1. The enthalpy of vaporization for egdn is (15.9 ± 0.09) kcal th mol −1. The indicated uncertainties are standard errors.
