Abstract

The lifetimes of the $2s3p^{3}P_{0,1,2}^{o}$ levels in Ne VII have been measured by the observation of transitions to the $2s3s^{3}S_{1}$ level with the use of the beam-foil excitation method. The results are $\ensuremath{\tau}(^{3}P_{J}^{o})=1.7(1),1.0(1), \mathrm{and} 1.9(1)$ nsec for the $J=0,1, \mathrm{and} 2$ levels, respectively. The smaller value for $J=1$ is due to a $J$-allowed decay channel to $2{s}^{2}^{1}S_{0}$, and implies a transition probability of 4.3(6) \ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{} ${10}^{8}$ ${\mathrm{sec}}^{\ensuremath{-}1}$ for this intercombination line.
