Abstract

This work describes the measurements of the ionizing radiation dose and the determination of the radiation isocenter using a tool consisting of three-dimensional polymer gel dosimeters and a dedicated software package. Specific polymer gel dosimeters were selected. Their inherent common feature is the possibility of high-resolution three-dimensional measurement of dose distribution in radiotherapy and the presence of the N-vinylpyrrolidone monomer in the composition alongside other substances such as the cross-linking agent N,N'-methylenebisacrylamide, oxygen scavengers, stabilizers and gel matrix. The aim of this study was to analyze the influence of the chemical history of N-vinylpyrrolidone (purity and aging) on the dose response of some dosimeters. In addition, this work seeks to answer the question of how important purity and aging of N-vinylpyrrolidone are in dosimetry applications, such as routine testing of medical accelerators.
