Abstract

Angular distributions at 0° ≤ θ 8 ≤ 10° were measured for the Coulomb dissociation of 8B in the field of 208Pb at E in=51.9 MeV/u. The data were analyzed using a quantum mechanical method where E1, E2 and ℓ=2 nuclear amplitudes are included. Extracted very small E2 components supports our previous analysis assuming a pure E1 transition in extracting S 17 factors for the 7Be(p,γ) 8B reaction.
