Abstract

Studies were performed to investigate driver's reaction time through a computer-based simulator. This paper describes the FPP Driver Reaction Timer simulator and the measuring algorithm. The simulator is composed of two subsystems: one for virtual driving simulation and stimulation, and the other to measure driver's actions and reactions. Tests were performed of the driver's reaction time in both real and simulated environments, and then an evaluation of the simulator was completed. The driver's reaction time was found to be longer in the real driver environment than in the simulations. Further development of the simulator is defined and discussed.
