Abstract
Optic-electronic sensor offers the capacity to collect the information of vibration behavior for a structural element. It is attractive to be used in the structural health control and monitoring due to its simplicity and low cost. This study aims to develop a new methodology to quantitatively measure the structural vibration by using optic-electronic sensor. In this work, the optic-electronic based measurement of vibration is compared to accelerometer measurement for validation. Our methodology is demonstrated towards a variety of material systems (i.e. fiber reinforced polymer (FRP)-bonded concrete panel, pine wood bar, cell phone screen, and real concrete column bonded with ceramic tiles). It is envisioned that our approach of measuring structural vibration by using the optic-electronic sensor will be much more economical than the existing approaches based on laser Doppler vibrometer.
