Abstract

This paper proposes a new measuring method of solid materials' Young's modulus. By supporting and exciting a sample on the nodes, the first resonant frequency can be measured from the experiment. The errors caused by numerical fitting of the resonant frequency in previous method are eliminated. The proposed method uses the FEA software ANSYS simulation to calculate Young's modulus, allowing the tested object to be variously shaped and obtaining more accurate results. Objects with titanium alloy, aluminum alloy and stainless steel materials are tested and analyzed. Also for the same material titanium alloy, which is divided into different lengths to measure, we had very good measurement values. The maximum error is 0.3% which is much lower compared with traditional error 1%. Experimental results agree with true values well, and prove the proposed method is feasible and precise.
