Abstract

A diamagnetic loop is installed inside the vacuum vessel of the Tortus tokamak. It consists of a ten turn diamagnetic coil and a graphite limiter. The low influence of the eddy currents in the vessel wall and relatively lower stray coupling on the diamagnetic signal make the measurement feasible. The experimental results, when plasma current ramped down, have shown that the plasma is paramagnetic for plasma current Ip≳9 kA and diamagnetic for plasma current Ip<9 kA. The measurement method, detail of the experiment system, and illustrative results are presented.
