Abstract

The product of the K-capture probability, P K , and the K-shell fluorescence yield, ω K of copper, P K ω K , in the decay of 65Zn was measured to be 0.398 ± 0.002. A gas-flow proportional counter was used to measure the x-rays and a NaI(T1) detector to measure the γ-rays. P K ω K was derived from the coincidences between x- and γ-rays. From the measured value of P K ω K and the theoretical K-capture probability P K = 0.880 ± 0.002, the K-shell fluorescence yield ω K = 0.452 ± 0.003 for copper is deduced.
