Abstract
Thermal power dissipation within the new-style multi-plate neutron-producing tantalum-clad tungsten target in Target Station 1 of the ISIS Spallation Neutron Source has been measured whilst the target is being irradiated by the 800-MeV beam from the ISIS proton synchrotron. Apart from two minor anomalies, the results agree well with predictions from Monte Carlo particle-tracking codes.
