Abstract

Abstract: Remote Presence technology, developed by researchers at MMRRC, UL, enable real-time control of mini ROVs from a remote control centre via Internet. Extension of Remote Presence to enable measurement of network delay (latency) is the main topic described in this paper. Both ends are synchronized to the same reference clock via Stratum 1 GPS-enabled NTP servers. Various communication protocols are used to measure network latency and its influence on overall performance.
