Abstract

ABSTRACTThe attenuation of granular ammonium phosphate in a matched, X-band circular waveguide sensor was used to measure its moisture content. In a waveguide length of 250 mm the slope of the calibration curve (attenuation vs. moisture content) of above 12 dB/% H2O has been obtained. With high meter stability and the density of granular material nearly constant, this slope gives a measurement accuracy of about ±0.10 % H2O in the range of 0.2 to 1.5 % H20. The measuring sensor, the properties of the material and sources of measurement error are discussed.
