Abstract

In this paper, we present the behavior of magnetocrystalline anisotropy constants of the Co/Pt multilayer, as a function of temperature and external magnetic field, observed by means of a torque magnetometer in an in-plane configuration. The [Co 32 ÅPt 10 Å] 6 multilayer is prepared by molecular beam epitaxy. We have determined the magnetocrystalline anisotropy constants K u1, K 2, and K 3 for different temperatures and in magnetic fields ranging from 2 to 10 kOe, taking into account the angle difference between the directions of the external magnetic field and the magnetization. The most prominent result in this work consists of the need to introduce the anisotropy constant of third order in the analysis.
