Abstract

The laboratory study of enhanced oil recovery with the aid of surfactants has increased tremendously since the development of the spinning drop apparatus. Almost all recent papers about the measurement of the interfacial tension between crude oil and formation water mention values determined with this apparatus. Modifications as to temperature control and influence of pressure have been suggested. However, all measurements deal with steady state conditions and this fact is always stressed. This aspect of the laboratory study deviates from the real situation where we deal with a dynamic process.
