Abstract

We propose a method for dielectric microparticles size measurement based on the temporal evolution of speckle pattern. We conducted experiments using aqueous suspension of different standard spherical latex particles that span a size range between 5 µm and 100 µm.To analyze the speckle pattern data, we use different and independent qualitative and quantitative algorithms. We built calibration curves between the actual size of the particles provided by the manufacturer and the corresponding descriptors derived from each quantitative algorithm of the speckle measurement technique. We show that this technique provides a useful, non-invasive and low-cost tool for determining the diameter of dielectric microparticles.
