Abstract

An ultrasonic system for the measurement of internal left ventricular transverse diameter in animals is described. The ventricular endocardial transducers are implanted easily and with minimal trauma via the left atrium. A tracking gate, instead of a conventional threshold detector, is used to follow the received signal. Reliable signals, including the first derivative of diameter, have been obtained in 90% of subjects.
