Abstract

The intensity of solar electromagnetic radiation (insolation) was investigated at Enugu, Nigeria, using a photovoltaic silicon solar meter. The location of this investigation was the Enugu Campus of the Anambra State University of Technology, where readings were taken hourly and daily from July to December 1983. Thus the period of investigation extended from the middle of the rainy season to the middle of the dry season. The mean daily insolation for the period of this study was found to be 14.5 × 10 6 J/m 2 per day. The empirical formula of Rapp and Hoffman, modified for local insolation, was used to fit the measured data. The effects of rain and harmattan on insolation were observed.
