Abstract

Abstract Infrared spectra of 0.12 mm thick frozen NaCl solution from 1600 to 4000 cm−1 were obtained at sub-zero temperature with a FTIR spectrometer. The transmittance of the sample decreased sensitively with decreasing temperature around the frequency of 2700 cm−1. The volume fraction of ice in the NaCl solution, calculated from the absorbance at 2700 cm−1, agreed well with the values predicted from a phase diagram of the system H2O-NaCl.
