Abstract

The coefficient of heat transfer between fluidized beds and immersed, loose, fine wires was determined experimentally. The wires were made of Alumel with diameters varying from 254 to 376 μm. The bed material consisted of uniformly sized sand, aluminum and glass beads of diameters ranging from 230 to 430 μm. Each wire was approximately 18 cm long, was totally immersed in a bed 9.2 cm i.d. and was heated by electric current. The current and the voltage drop across the wire were measured, then used in the calculations of the wire temperature and heat transfer coefficient. A correlation was obtained for heat transfer coefficient in a liquid—solid fluidized bed, which is in good agreement with reported results.
