Abstract

In this paper venturimeter is proposed to measure the flow rate of homogeneous solid-liquid two-phase flows in a tube at low volume concentrations. Six mixtures varying in concentration and velocity were systemically measured in both horizontal and vertical arrangements for the variations of pressure and discharge coefficient of venturi. The results show that the average discharge coefficient ratio is positively related to concentration. However the growth rate decreases as concentration increases, and the maximum of the former is merely 1.05 times the minimum when concentration varied from 0% to 15%. Furthermore the average discharge coefficient ratio decreases as the particle size increases for the same concentration, whose maximum value increase by 3%. The results indicate that venturi is an accurate meter for homogeneous solid-liquid two-phase flow measurement.
