Abstract

The measurement of D-meson production in heavy-ion collisions at LHC energy provides insights into the mechanisms of interaction of charm quarks in the hot and dense medium formed in these collisions. ALICE results on the D-meson nuclear modification factor and azimuthal anisotropy in Pb-Pb collisions at √sNN = 2.76 TeV are presented.

Highlights

  • Heavy-flavour hadrons are suitable to probe the conditions of the high-energy-density QuarkGluon Plasma (QGP) medium formed in ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collisions

  • The com√parison of RAA with the Dmeson nuclear modification factor measured in p–Pb collisions at sNN = 5.02 TeV [10] shows that the expected cold nuclear matter effects are smaller than the uncertainties on RAA for pT > 3 GeV/c

  • The results obtained by ALICE using the data from the LHC Run-1 (2010–2013) indicate a strong suppression of the D-meson production in central Pb–Pb collisions for pT > 3 GeV/c, which is mainly due the interactions of heavy quarks with the hot and dense medium
