Abstract

Constant and high-speed transient polarizations were measured using the two-photon absorption (TPA) of a Si avalanche photodiode (APD). The APD was illuminated with the light to be measured and with a short pulse of linearly polarized local light. The linear polarization direction of the local light was varied in four ways. The photocurrent produced by the cross TPA between these two beams was measured and used to determine the polarization of the light being measured. The temporal resolution is limited by the pulse width of the local light. The transient variation in the polarization of an output pulse from a polarization-maintaining fiber was measured.
