Abstract

A flow injection system incorporating a commercial BOD sensor, using entrapped Trichosporum cutaneum, for the determination of BOD (biochemical oxygen demand) is presented. The linear range of BOD measurement varied from 10 to 70 mg l−1. The correlation between the BOD sensor and the official method (AFNOR T90 103 - France) is good for waste water inlet and outlet effluents and domestic landfill leachates up to 500 mg l−1. The lifetime of the membrane sensor is greater than 40 days and 200 measurements. Analysis time is 30 minutes including rinsing.
