Abstract
The blood plasma colloid osmotic pressure was measured with a servo nulling instrument that employs cellulose acetate membranes, and two types of membrane-transducer instruments that utilize both cellulose acetate and hydrated polymer membranes. A calibrating standard was used to obtain uniform readings for plasma with the three instruments. Measurements were performed on laboratory animals. A relatively large sample of rabbits showed that the plasma colloid osmotic pressure is related to mean blood pressure, but independent of hematocrit.
