Abstract
Ejected electron spectra from the autoionizing state in Na + –He collisions have been measured with incident Na + ion energies from 1 keV to 2.25 keV. The anisotropy parameter β 2 for electron ejection from the autoionizing state Na(2p 5 3s 2 ) 2 P is presented. The alignment of the autoionizing state is discussed in relation to the energy dependences of the anisotropy parameter β 2 . The energy dependence of the anisotropy parameter β 2 is interpreted as being due to an excitation by a radial coupling between two ∑ states, followed by a full rotation of the quasimolecule during the slow Na + –He collisions.
