Abstract

In mountainous regions of eastern subtropical Crazil the amount of bulk atmospheric deposition reaching closed canopy forests may vary greatly in a small area. To measure variations in deposition to a forested basin near Rio de Janeiro we employed a simple technique of mounting collectors above the tree canopy. Experiments showed that the differences between means from such collectors as compared to those collectors in clearings were 5 percent, and 17 percent for rainfall, sodium, and acidic deposition, respectively
