Abstract

Recent developments in muffler research have shown the need for realistic gas‐flow models of the impedance of perforations when used in tubes of baffles. The needs and difficulties of measuring the impedance for the singular condition of flow passing through the perforation are examined. Data are presented of the impedance of several perforated plate samples obtained in a flow tube using a swept‐sine excitation technique and the two‐microphone, transfer function method of measurement.
