Abstract

Using data collected by the Aleph detector from 1990 to 1992, the strong coupling constant as well as some non-perturbative terms have been measured using tau decays from Z → τ + τ − . The tau leptonic branching ratio is measured to be B l = 0.1750 ± 0.0011 and the tau lifetime τ τ = 0.2925 ± 0.0032 ps . Combining these two measurements with an analysis of the invariant mass squared spectrum of hadronic tau decays results in α s ( m Z 2 ) = 0.124 ± 0.0022 ± 0.0010.
